Our Research Methods
OUR APPROACH
We framed our research within the social-ecological model. This model examines the following levels that influence a person's health like individual, interpersonal, community, institutional, and policy. All of these levels are dimensions that can influence a person's health and well-being.
INTERVIEWS

Each student conducted individual interviews with various people in the community. Some examples of questions we asked were:
-
How do you think the community perceives addicted pregnant women?
-
Do you provide services for addicted pregnant women? If so, what services do you provide?
-
How does the opinion of the community affect local government's decisions on treatment centers?
Who did we interview?
-
Local community organizations in Delaware County that serve pregnant women
-
People who work in government or politics
-
Community members affected by addiction

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Steps we took when creating research questions for interviews:
-
Establish the topic we are addressing
-
Ensure the research and questions are ethical and unbiased
-
Questions should be open ended and not leading
-
Address how and why
-
Be concise
-
Have a list of ten-fifteen questions that revolve around our overarching questions
DATA ANALYSIS
Once the interviews were transcribed, we each went through and analyzed the data to find recurring themes. The themes included:
-
Individual barriers/support
-
Interpersonal barriers/support
-
Community barriers/support
